It’s Where You Work
Commercial Property Insurance
Protecting your business property with commercial property insurance in Mississippi ensures peace of mind if a disaster happens. In case of catastrophes like fire, explosion, theft, or vandalism, property insurance helps cover your costs.
Wind, hail, and floods are especially common in Mississippi, especially if you’re on the Gulf Coast where the risk of hurricanes and tropical storms is high. You’ll want to give special consideration to protecting your business property from these risks.
When the unexpected happens, you’ll be ready.
Imagine a fire breaks out, and you lose your entire inventory. Or your business is burglarized, causing physical damage and possibly lost assets. Your ability to recover from these incidents depends on your commercial property insurance.
In case of catastrophes like fire, explosion, theft, or vandalism, property insurance helps cover your costs, whether it’s to repair damaged property or replace what you’ve lost. In addition, property coverage can provide business interruption income coverage if a covered loss forces you to close your business for an extended time. Protecting your business property ensures your peace of mind if a disaster occurs. Coverages might include:
- Building & Personal Property
- Builders Risk
- Business Income
- Extra Expense
- Legal Liability
Wind & Hail
While your business owners policy (BOP) or commercial property insurance policy will cover wind and hail damage, the deductible for these claims is structured differently. It’s best to have a good understanding of how these deductibles work so you don’t get blindsided in the event of a hurricane or storm.
Most insurance deductibles are a set dollar amount, like $1,000. This means you pay $1,000 before your insurance coverage kicks in and covers the rest. Wind and hail coverage uses a separate percentage deductible, usually between 1% and 5% of the damage costs. In some areas like the Mississippi Gulf Coast, there is a “named storm” deductible set at a higher percentage of the damage when the National Weather Service names a hurricane or tropical storm, like Hurricane Katrina or Hurricane Zeta.
Flood & Earthquake
Your basic insurance policy does not protect you against damage from earthquakes and floods. If your business is in a high or low-risk area, consider adding earthquake and flood insurance to your business insurance policy. More than half of all flood claims occur in areas considered to have low flood exposure, and each year there are around 5,000 earthquakes in the United States. This is especially important in Mississippi, where flooding happens regularly all over the state.
